About the foundation

The Alabama Humanities Alliance (AHA), founded in 1974 as a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, is dedicated to fostering public understanding of the humanities across Alabama. Its mission is to support programs that explore history, literature, philosophy, and culture, with a particular emphasis on community engagement and lifelong learning. Through grants, the AHA enables scholars, cultural organizations, and media producers to create projects that illuminate the human experience and connect Alabamians with diverse perspectives.
