About the foundation

Lambda Literary, founded in 1989, is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to nurturing and advocating for LGBTQ literature in all its forms. Its founding ethos emerged from a need to recognize and celebrate voices that had been marginalized in mainstream literary culture, and it has since grown into a vital institutional force. Through its annual Lambda Literary Awards, the Emerging LGBTQ Voices Fellowship, and various public programs, Lambda Literary supports writers at all stages of their careers, fostering a community that values artistic excellence and authentic representation.

Application guidance

For the Emerging LGBTQ Voices Fellowship, applicants should demonstrate a serious commitment to their craft and a clear understanding of how their work engages with LGBTQ themes, though not necessarily in a prescriptive way. The selection committee values originality, strong writing, and potential for growth. It is advisable to review past fellows and award winners to understand the range of work supported. Applications typically require a writing sample, a statement of purpose, and letters of recommendation. Deadlines are strict, and materials should be carefully proofread. Lambda Literary encourages applications from underrepresented voices within the LGBTQ spectrum.
