About the foundation

The Ontario Government's funding opportunities for the arts are administered through various agencies, most notably the Ontario Arts Council (OAC), which was established in 1963. The OAC's founding ethos is to foster the creation and production of art for the benefit of all Ontarians, supporting a wide range of artistic practices across the province. Its core mission is to provide grants to individual artists, ad hoc groups, and arts organizations in order to sustain and advance the arts in Ontario. The funding programs are designed to reflect the diversity of the province and to encourage artistic excellence, innovation, and public engagement.

Application guidance

Artists should carefully review the specific guidelines for each funding program, as eligibility criteria and application requirements vary widely. It is crucial to prepare a clear and compelling project proposal that aligns with the program's objectives, and to provide a well-documented budget. Deadlines are strictly enforced, so applicants should start early and ensure all supporting materials are submitted correctly. Utilizing the OAC's grant writing resources and seeking feedback from past recipients can improve the chances of success. Additionally, artists are encouraged to contact program officers for clarification before applying.
