About the foundation

The Africa-Europe Partnerships for Culture: Connect and Create Professional Mobility in Performing Arts is a collaborative initiative funded by the European Union and implemented by the Institut français, in partnership with several African and European cultural networks. Launched in 2022, the programme aims to foster sustainable cultural cooperation between Africa and Europe by supporting the professional mobility of artists and cultural professionals in the performing arts. Its founding ethos is rooted in reciprocity, mutual learning, and long-term partnership-building, moving beyond traditional donor-recipient models to create equitable exchanges. The programme provides grants for mobility projects that enable artists, curators, producers, and technicians to travel, collaborate, and present work across the two continents, thereby strengthening the performing arts sector and encouraging innovative cross-cultural creations.

Application guidance

Applicants should carefully review the call guidelines, which emphasize the importance of genuine partnership between African and European organizations. Proposals must clearly articulate the mutual benefits of the mobility project, including how it will contribute to the professional development of all parties involved. A detailed budget and timeline are required, and projects should align with the programme's goals of sustainability, inclusivity, and artistic excellence. It is advisable to establish partnerships well in advance and to ensure that the project involves a balanced representation of both continents. The selection committee values innovative approaches that address contemporary challenges in the performing arts, such as digital transformation, climate change, and social inclusion. Applications are typically submitted through an online platform, and deadlines are strict; late or incomplete submissions are not considered.
