About the magazine

Silverfish Review Press is a small, independent literary press founded in 1979 by poet and editor Rodger Moody. Based in Eugene, Oregon, the press has long been dedicated to publishing poetry and short fiction that demonstrates formal acuity and emotional depth, often by writers who have not yet received widespread recognition. Its Gerald Cable Book Award, established in 1997, is an annual competition that selects one full-length poetry manuscript for publication, reflecting the press's commitment to sustaining a venue for serious, crafted work outside the commercial mainstream.

The Gerald Cable Book Award is open annually to poets writing in English. Manuscripts should be 48–80 pages, previously unpublished as a collection, and submitted according to the current guidelines posted on the press's website or in calls for submissions. A reading fee is required. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but notify the press immediately if the manuscript is accepted elsewhere. The press values clear, resonant language and well-structured collections; avoid experimental or hybrid work that lacks a strong lyrical core. Proofread carefully, include a brief bio, and adhere strictly to formatting and deadline requirements.
