About the magazine
Submitting your work
Admission to the Slade is highly competitive and primarily portfolio-based, with a strong emphasis on the coherence and ambition of your practice as evidenced in recent work. For undergraduate applications, the portfolio should demonstrate technical ability, conceptual clarity, and a willingness to experiment; for postgraduate study, a more developed and critically informed body of work is expected, along with a clear sense of direction. The school values individuality and risk-taking over adherence to a house style, so present work that feels authentically yours. Written statements should articulate your interests and intentions without resorting to jargon, and interviews—when offered—are an opportunity to discuss your practice in depth. International applicants should note that while the Slade is part of UCL, its admissions processes are art-specific; check the website for current deadlines, portfolio requirements, and any changes to the application format. Given the volume of applications, it is advisable to apply well before the deadline and to ensure that your portfolio is thoughtfully edited rather than exhaustive.
