About the magazine

Tales from the Crosstimbers is an online poetry initiative that takes its name from the transitional ecotone where eastern forests meet the Great Plains—a region historically characterized by fragmented woodlands and a distinct, resilient cultural identity. Founded as a digital-first platform, the project seeks to publish poetry that engages with liminality, place, and the quiet tensions between isolation and community. Its mission is to provide a focused venue for work that might otherwise fall between the categorical cracks of regional and experimental poetry, favoring precision of language over rhetorical flourish.

Submitting your work

Reading periodVaries

Submit 3–5 poems in a single document, with a brief cover letter that situates your work without over-explaining it. The editors favor poems that trust the reader and avoid explanatory gestures. Simultaneous submissions are acceptable, but notify promptly upon acceptance elsewhere. Response times tend to be slow—often several months—so patience is expected. There are no fees for general submissions, and the platform prioritizes work from writers outside major metropolitan centers, though all are welcome to submit.
