About the magazine

The Creekside Magazine is an online literary and arts publication founded on the conviction that the most urgent cultural conversations often begin at the margins. Taking its name from the overlooked waterways that shape both landscapes and communities, the magazine has cultivated a distinct editorial identity rooted in place-based inquiry and the poetics of everyday life. Its pages—digital but deliberately intimate—feature poetry, short fiction, essays, and visual art that attend to questions of home, displacement, memory, and the quiet architectures of belonging. Rather than chasing novelty for its own sake, Creekside favors work that is patient, formally attentive, and emotionally precise, often by writers and artists who are early in their careers or working outside established metropolitan networks.

Submitting your work

Reading periodVaries

Before submitting, read at least two recent issues in full—not just the submission guidelines. Creekside editors look for work that engages with the theme of home and belonging in ways that are specific, surprising, and grounded in lived experience rather than abstract rhetoric. Avoid generic nature imagery or sentimental treatments of 'place'; instead, show us the particular textures, conflicts, and small revelations that make a home or an unhoming. Simultaneous submissions are generally accepted, but please withdraw promptly if placed elsewhere. Include a brief cover letter that states your connection to the theme—no need for extensive publication lists. Response times can be slow (often 3–6 months), so plan accordingly. Most importantly, trust that the editors value sincerity over polish; a rough but honest piece will fare better than a flawless but hollow one.
