About the magazine

The Pocket Poet is a digital literary project founded on the belief that poetry thrives in the margins—on subway commutes, in waiting rooms, in the brief pauses of a busy day. Operating without a fixed physical location, it curates compact, carefully sequenced issues that prioritize accessibility and immediacy. Its mission is to create a portable, intimate reading experience that resists the noise of contemporary media, offering instead a quiet, concentrated encounter with language. Each issue is conceived as a small anthology, often organized around an implicit thematic thread, though the editors avoid rigid constraints in favor of tonal coherence.

Submitting your work

Reading periodOpen now

Submit 3–5 poems (or up to 500 words of prose poetry) that demonstrate a strong sense of voice and economy of language. The editors favor work that feels complete and resonant within a small space—avoid sprawling or overly experimental forms unless they are tightly controlled. Simultaneous submissions are acceptable, but notify immediately upon acceptance elsewhere. Include a brief third-person bio and a cover letter that speaks to your aesthetic rather than listing credentials. Response times vary; query after three months if you have not heard back. Reading periods are typically announced via social media and the website, with a January issue often open for submissions in the preceding autumn.
