About the magazine

The Tiny Journal is an online literary magazine founded in 2018 with the conviction that brevity, when practiced with precision, can be as expansive as any longer form. Its name signals a dual commitment: to the small, the compressed, and the overlooked, and to the journal as an intimate, portable space for serious writing. From its inception, the editors have sought work that resists the ornamental, favoring sentences that carry weight without excess. The journal publishes poetry, short prose, and hybrid texts on a rolling basis, with an emphasis on voices that are emerging or underrecognized in mainstream literary venues. Its mission is not to democratize by lowering standards but to widen the aperture of what is considered publishable, one taut, resonant piece at a time.

Submitting your work

Reading periodOpen now

Read at least two full issues before submitting; the journal's aesthetic is legible only in aggregate. Send no more than three poems or one prose piece under 1,000 words per reading period. Expect long response times—often several months—and do not query before the stated window has passed. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but withdraw immediately if placed elsewhere. The editors value cover letters that are brief and factual; they do not respond well to flattery or to explanations of why a piece 'fits' the journal. If rejected, wait until the next reading period before sending new work. There is no fee to submit, and no payment beyond contributor copies for print anthologies; this is a labor-of-love operation, and patience is part of the contract.
