Geist: Art & Photography Submissions
Overview
Geist is a Canadian magazine with a mandate to publish writers and artists from across Canada. The Art & Photography category seeks visual work—collages, photography, mixed media, cartography, and art—to accompany written pieces in the magazine. The majority of accepted artwork is held on file until it can be matched with a written piece, and submissions may be kept for up to one year. This is a curatorial model that prioritizes editorial fit over standalone exhibition. Submissions are accepted via a general call with a fixed deadline of October 9, 2026. A fee of $3.00 USD applies, though no-fee general submissions are available for Black artists, Indigenous artists, and artists of colour. Artists may attach up to five samples and should include a link to an online portfolio in the cover letter. The cover letter must include name, complete mailing address, and email. Work that does not follow the guidelines will not be considered and will be automatically declined. The curatorial vision is one of integration: visual work is selected to complement and deepen the written content of the magazine. Artists should consider how their work might converse with text, rather than stand alone. The magazine's commitment to Canadian writers and artists, and its explicit no-fee option for racialized artists, reflects a considered approach to access and representation.
