Eric Gregory Awards: Eric Gregory Awards
Overview
The Eric Gregory Awards, founded in 1960 by the late Dr Eric Gregory, are dedicated to the encouragement of young poets. The award is given for a collection of poems by poets under the age of 30, and has a long-standing reputation for identifying and supporting emerging talent in poetry. Winners receive a week-long solo residency at Thomas Cottage, a historic farmhouse in the Lake District hamlet of Hartsop, typically scheduled in January or February following the award. This residency provides poets with a focused environment to develop their work amidst the rising fells just south of Ullswater. Additionally, winners are invited to have a poem from their winning collection or other work published in the summer edition of Poetry London, offering significant exposure. The awards are administered with a commitment to fostering poetic voices at a critical early stage in their careers. The selection process is discerning, and the benefits are designed to support both creative development and professional advancement.
