Between the Mangroves: Hybrid Work

Overview
Between the Mangroves is a new anthology rooted in the landscapes, communities, and creative spirit of Southwest Florida, yet its scope extends beyond regional boundaries to consider the universal experiences of place, change, and belonging. The publication takes its name from the mangrove ecosystem—a liminal zone where land and water intermingle, where erosion is both a destructive and generative force. This inaugural edition seeks work that resonates with the theme of Erosion, interpreted broadly as a process that reshapes coastlines, ecosystems, and human lives. The anthology is open to writing in all forms, with a particular interest in hybrid work that defies easy categorization. There is no submission fee, and the selected contributors will be published in the inaugural anthology. While the editors are based in Southwest Florida, they welcome submissions from anywhere, prioritizing writing that demonstrates a deep engagement with the theme and a literary sensibility. Curatorially, the project is interested in work that attends to the subtle and dramatic ways erosion operates—physically, emotionally, and culturally. The mangrove serves as a guiding metaphor: a resilient, adaptive entity that persists through constant negotiation with its environment. Submissions should reflect a similar attentiveness to language, form, and the complexities of change. The editors value writing that is evocative, precise, and unafraid to explore the intersections of nature, memory, and transformation.
