The Rang Yan Review: Regional Literary Editor — India
Overview
The Rang Yan Review is assembling an editorial cohort defined not by ideological gatekeeping but by the capacity for difficult editorial judgment. The journal positions itself against the reproduction of existing literary canons, seeking instead editors who can discern merit where institutional validation has not yet arrived. This is a call for a Regional Literary Editor for India—a role that demands both critical rigor and an independent intellectual stance. The publication's political orientation is explicitly left-wing, yet it draws a deliberate distinction between structural critique and doctrinaire writing. It values disagreement, formal experimentation, and complexity, and it is not interested in political conformity. The ideal editor will therefore be someone who can engage with socialist, Marxist, anti-capitalist, or anti-colonial thought without reducing literature to propaganda or allowing ideology to eclipse aesthetic judgment. This is a rolling, no-fee opportunity based remotely. The application is evaluated on the strength of the applicant's own published writing—specifically, two to three pieces that reveal their literary, critical, or political thinking. At least one of these must demonstrate engagement with structurally critical ideas. There is no prize or stipend stated; the compensation is the editorial authority itself and the chance to shape a journal's regional literary coverage. The curatorial vision is one of intellectual independence: the editor must be able to recognize literary value that the mainstream has overlooked, and to defend that recognition with articulate, non-dogmatic reasoning.
