The Rang Yan Review: Regional Literary Editor — Southeast Asia
Overview
The Rang Yan Review is an independent, non-commercial literary and intellectual journal committed to literature, critical thought, and left-wing perspectives. It publishes poetry, fiction, essays, criticism, translations, interviews, and writing that moves between literary and intellectual forms. The journal positions itself as a space for rigorous, politically engaged writing that resists the commodification of literary production. The journal is currently seeking a volunteer Regional Literary Editor responsible for contemporary literature from Southeast Asia. This is a curatorial and editorial role, not a submission call for writers. The editor will be responsible for shaping the journal's engagement with a region that encompasses radically different literary traditions, languages, histories, and political contexts. The position may encompass literature from Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Brunei, and Timor-Leste. The curatorial vision is explicitly anti-reductive: the journal is interested in approaching Southeast Asian literature beyond the categories through which it is often presented to English-language readers. It seeks an editor capable of engaging with the region's complexity rather than flattening it into a single idea of "Southeast Asian literature." This is a volunteer position, reflecting the journal's non-commercial, independent ethos. The editor will play a key role in identifying, commissioning, and editing work that reflects the region's diverse literary and intellectual currents.
