Denver Quarterly

Overview
For six decades, Denver Quarterly has been a vital forum for literary and critical experimentation, publishing poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and hybrid forms that challenge conventional boundaries. The journal's longevity is a testament to its commitment to diverse voices and aesthetic risk-taking, sustained by a majority-volunteer team of graduate students. In its 60th year, DQ confronts an existential budgetary crisis that threatens its survival. To continue publishing, the journal will implement a $5 submission fee per submission when its window opens on March 1, 2026. This decision, the first of its kind in sixty years, reflects the dire financial realities facing arts and university ecosystems. The fee directly supports the journal's ability to publish work that embodies wide-ranging possibilities. Submitters should understand that their contribution is not merely a transaction but a lifeline for a historic publication. The editorial vision remains steadfast: to champion writing that expands the possibilities of language and thought, from poetry and prose to performance, critical engagements, conversations, reviews, translations, and other critical-creative experiments.
