European Media Art Platform Residency Programme 2027
Overview
The European Media Art Platform (EMAP) is a consortium of European media art organisations committed to supporting practices that operate at the convergence of art, technology, and science. Its Residency Programme 2027 is specifically directed toward artists engaged in the performing arts, a curatorial decision that reflects a sustained institutional interest in how performance—whether embodied, durational, or relational—intersects with media art and emergent technologies. This call is part of EMAP's broader mission to foster cross-disciplinary work and to provide artists with the resources to develop ambitious new projects within a networked European context. Selected artists will receive a two-month production residency at one of 15 EMAP host organisations, each with its own technical facilities and media labs. The residency includes a 4,000 EUR grant for the artist, an additional 2,000 EUR grant for a collaborating partner, and a 4,000 EUR project budget to support the realisation of the proposed work. Accommodation and travel expenses are covered, and artists are invited to a kick-off conference at LABoral in Gijón, Spain, in March 2027. The programme also encompasses exhibition tours and potential exhibitions with EMAP partners, extending the life of the work beyond the residency period. This is not a speculative prize but a production-oriented residency designed to advance a discrete project. The consortium's structure—spanning multiple countries and institutional contexts—means that artists should be prepared to articulate how their work engages with both the specific host organisation's resources and the broader EMAP network. The emphasis on performance suggests a jury attuned to questions of liveness, mediation, and the body, and to proposals that can meaningfully integrate technical experimentation with performative inquiry.
