Belletrist: Tarot
Overview
Belletrist's call for its Bellezine issue on Tarot is a thematic invitation rather than a competition. The framework is explicit: three cards, three temporal registers—what has shaped you, what you inhabit now, and what may come. Submissions may attach themselves to a specific card or treat the deck as a broader metaphor for time, memory, fate, or change. The editors have not prescribed a single aesthetic or doctrinal reading of tarot; the divinatory, the literary, and the skeptical are all admissible starting points. The magazine's stated practice is multilingual and genre-agnostic. Recent issues have included creative work in Chinese, Spanish, French, Arabic, Thai, and Vietnamese, and this call reiterates that work in all genres and all languages is welcome. For writers and artists whose practice moves between languages or whose work resists easy categorization, that policy is a meaningful signal about the editorial room available. There is no submission fee and no prize attached. What is offered is publication in a curated issue with a clear conceptual spine. The deadline is fixed at December 31, 2026. Artists should treat the tarot structure as a compositional constraint, not a prompt to be illustrated literally; the strongest submissions will likely use the past-present-future arc to organize material that already carries its own urgency.
