New Plains Review: Art + Photo Submissions
Overview
New Plains Review, a literary and arts magazine with a four-decade publishing history, is assembling its 40th anniversary issue and has issued an open call for visual art and photography. The journal's stated curatorial posture favors work that pushes boundaries and brings new forms to life, without requiring adherence to any regional or identity-based theme. Submissions may encompass photography, painting, sketch, collage, sculpture, graphic work, and experimental practices. The selected cover image will anchor the anniversary issue, lending the call a degree of institutional visibility within the magazine's readership. Contributors should note two material constraints. First, the journal cannot accept work that includes a recognizable human face, a restriction the editors attribute to privacy rights and copyright law. Second, no AI-generated or AI-assisted content will be considered. These parameters are not incidental; they shape the field of eligible work and should inform image selection from the outset. The editors also state that they particularly encourage art and artists from intersectional or marginalized identities. Each submission may include up to five single-file images, with most file types accepted, including PDF, .doc or .docx, .jpeg, and .png. Each work must be clearly and individually titled. A submission fee of $3.00 (USD) applies. The deadline is October 13, 2026. There is no cash prize or exhibition attached to the call as described; the principal consideration is publication, including potential selection for the anniversary issue cover.
