The Anderson Center at Tower View — 2027 Salzburg Exchange Artist — For MN visual artists
Overview
Since 2008, the Anderson Center at Tower View has facilitated an annual exchange with the City of Salzburg, selecting one Minnesota visual artist to live and work in a guest studio at the Künstlerhaus—home to the Salzburger Kunstverein—each July. In reciprocal spirit, a Salzburg artist occupies a studio at the Anderson Center's artist community. This exchange is predicated on mutual benefit and cultural cooperation, not on competition for prizes or exhibitions. The selected artist receives a studio and living space in Salzburg for the residency period, along with the intangible but significant advantage of immersion in a different artistic milieu. The program is designed to foster new impressions and practical experience, which artists are expected to assimilate into their practice. It also aims to establish lasting networks between the artistic communities of Minnesota and Salzburg. The artist is responsible for their own travel expenses; no fee is charged to apply. Curatorially, the exchange favors artists whose work engages with place, context, and cross-cultural dialogue, though no specific thematic constraints are imposed. The residency is an opportunity for focused production and international exposure, situated within a historic European art center. The Anderson Center seeks applicants who can articulate how this exchange will meaningfully advance their practice and contribute to the broader objectives of cultural diplomacy.
