Moonstone Arts Center — New Voices 2026

Overview
Moonstone Arts Center's New Voices program operates at the intersection of youth mentorship and literary publishing, sustaining both a monthly reading series and a bi-annual anthology. The initiative is explicitly designed to disrupt the insularity that can afflict poetic communities: as the center notes, 'We tend to gather in our own communities. There is nothing wrong with that except we begin to sound alike, look alike, think alike.' New Voices is thus a curatorial intervention, one that seeks to introduce younger poets to a plurality of voices, aesthetics, and lived experiences. For the 2026 anthology, the center invites a single poem from each poet between the ages of 10 and 25. The constraint—one poem, no more than 35 lines, with spaces between stanzas and section breaks counted toward the total—is deliberate. It asks for compression, for a poem that can stand as a representative utterance rather than a portfolio. There is no submission fee, and the selected poets will be included in the Spring 2025 anthology (the publication cycle overlaps with the 2026 call) and may participate in a virtual reading event on December 9th at 2pm. The curatorial vision is not merely to publish young writers but to build a cross-community cohort. The anthology and reading series function as a platform for a generation that is often spoken about but rarely given unmediated access to a literary stage. Moonstone's approach is serious and structural: it does not promise fame or prizes, but it does offer publication, a reading, and the chance to be read alongside peers from different backgrounds. For the emerging poet, this is an opportunity to enter a conversation that is larger than any single zip code or school district.
