Scottsdale Arts — The Wisdom-Artists age 65+

Overview
Scottsdale Arts has issued an open call for 'The Wisdom,' a juried exhibition dedicated to artists aged 65 and older who are residents of Arizona. The exhibition will be held at the Scottsdale Civic Center Public Gallery, located within the Civic Center Library at 3839 N Drinkwater Boulevard, Scottsdale, AZ 85251. The show runs from April 13, 2027, through June 30, 2027. There is no submission fee. The deadline for entries is January 11, 2027. The curatorial premise is explicit: the exhibition seeks work that reflects the emotional and intellectual depth accrued over decades of lived experience. As the call states, 'Some of the most moving, insightful art comes from artists who bring decades of lived experience to their work. The emotional vocabulary that comes from navigating life’s challenges brings wisdom, humor, and wonder. Older artists have plenty to say, mostly that they’re not done.' This is not a retrospective framing but a forward-looking one, emphasizing ongoing practice and continued artistic vitality. The gallery itself is a modest 680-square-foot space with eight-foot walls, a cable and latch-hook hanging system, and floor-based electric and data access. Wall-hung works may be up to 52 inches wide by 52 inches long. Sculptural works intended for pedestals should not exceed 20 inches high by 15 inches deep by 15 inches wide. The walls may not be pierced. Artists selected will have their work on view for approximately two and a half months in a public gallery situated within a library, ensuring a diverse and engaged audience beyond the traditional art-world circuit.
