2027 SSEA Conference on Emerging Adulthood — 2027 SSEA Paper Symposium

Overview
The Society for the Study of Emerging Adulthood (SSEA) is a scholarly organization dedicated to advancing research and dialogue on the developmental period between adolescence and adulthood. Its biennial conference convenes researchers, practitioners, and theorists from psychology, sociology, education, public health, and related fields. The paper symposium format is a cornerstone of the conference, designed to foster sustained intellectual exchange around a shared theme rather than isolated findings. A symposium may take one of two structures: three papers followed by a discussant, or four papers without a discussant. In both cases, a chair is required to coordinate the session, introduce the theme, and facilitate discussion among presenters and the audience. Each symposium is allotted 90 minutes, allowing for substantive presentation and dialogue. The chair is responsible for submitting an integrative statement of up to 500 words that articulates the symposium title, the rationale for grouping the papers, and an overview of shared themes and contributions. Each paper requires an individual abstract of up to 500 words, including the research question or topic, methods or framework, results or key insights, and implications. There is no submission fee. The conference does not offer a prize or publication guarantee; the value lies in the curated exchange of ideas and the visibility of presenting within a thematically coherent session. The SSEA seeks symposia that demonstrate intellectual rigor, clear thematic cohesion, and the potential to advance understanding of emerging adulthood. Proposals should reflect a deliberate grouping of papers that speak to one another, not merely a collection of individual studies.
