European Heritage Hub: 2026 Peer Learning Visit for Heritage Professionals in Europe (Portugal)
Overview
The European Heritage Hub, an EU-funded initiative, convenes its 2026 Peer Learning Visit in Lisbon, Portugal, from 4 to 6 November 2026, in partnership with the City of Lisbon. The programme is designed for heritage professionals and representatives of cities and regions who seek to examine, through direct exchange, how cultural heritage can be mobilised to address contemporary social challenges. The visit is not a conference but a working encounter: meetings with local policymakers and stakeholders, site visits, and facilitated solution-building workshops constitute the core of the agenda. The working language is English. A central case study is Lisbon's 'Memories of Lisbon' initiative, which confronts the risk of social isolation among older residents by engaging vocational education students to record life stories and produce 2D animations that bring personal testimonies to life. This project exemplifies the city's strategic commitment to using culture, heritage, and digital innovation to foster social cohesion. Participants will have the opportunity to interrogate this model and consider its transferability to their own contexts. The visit is intended for those who wish to transform their own heritage initiatives and policies, and who value peer exchange as a method of professional development. There is no fee to apply. The programme is organised with the support of the European Union.
