IDRA Teatro: Residency on Gender-based Violence 2027 (Italy)
Overview
IDRA Teatro's 'Residences of Change' is a 31-day international residency hosted in Brescia, Northern Italy, across January and February 2027, supported by the Culture Moves Europe programme. The structure is deliberately intimate: a working group of five residents, convened to examine gender-based violence and violence against women through participatory artistic practice. The residency positions the performing arts not as commentary but as a possible instrument of social response, asking what creative practice can do in the face of what the call terms a social emergency. The program is built around field-research trips and the collective elaboration of a shared artistic strategy. Residents are expected to co-create a participatory artistic programme, working from the premise that the subject demands methods beyond the solitary studio—methods that engage communities, witnesses, and participants directly. The thematic remit is specific, and the residency's value lies in that specificity: rather than a general retreat, it offers sustained time, institutional context, and peer exchange around a single, difficult inquiry. IDRA Teatro's call is open to European artists, collectives, and companies working with or interested in participatory practices and the social impact of the arts. There is no application fee. The residency is designed for practitioners who can articulate why this theme, and why this form. The organizing body's framing—'Harnessing the Transformative Power of the Creative Practice'—signals an expectation that residents arrive with a critical position, not merely a topic of interest.
