Institute for Ideas and Imagination: Fellowship 2027–28 (France)
Overview
The Institute for Ideas and Imagination, housed at Reid Hall in Paris, convenes a cohort of up to fifteen Fellows each academic year—half from Columbia University and its affiliates, half artists and writers from around the world. This deliberate composition fosters a sustained dialogue between the academy and creative practice, with Fellows working side by side in a shared intellectual and artistic community. The Institute provides each Fellow with a private office, administrative and research support, and access to Columbia’s libraries and research facilities in Paris and across Europe. The creative arts category is open to practitioners in visual and sound arts, film, composing, and writing who are not affiliated with Columbia University. Fellows receive a stipend of 75,000 USD for the full academic year, running from September 2027 through May 2028. There is no application fee, and the selection process is conducted by the Institute’s leadership and an external jury of distinguished practitioners. The fellowship is designed for those whose work engages in meaningful cross-disciplinary exchange and who would benefit from a year of focused research and conversation in Paris.
