Studio Alta: Four Residencies 2027 (Czech Republic)
Overview
Studio Alta, a Prague-based organization, has issued four open calls for residencies throughout 2027. Each residency is conceived as a distinct curatorial proposition, reflecting the institution's commitment to context-responsive and process-oriented artistic practices. The residencies are: The House of Sweat (1–10 February), House of Rest (five-day retreat between March and November), House of Research (19–28 April), and House in the Neighbourhood (9–18 August). These opportunities are open to artists across disciplines, with a particular emphasis on performative and socially engaged practices. The House of Sweat is designed for performative art projects that engage with the specific environment of Studio Alta's sauna and its immediate surroundings. It seeks proposals that explore intimate spaces, proximity to audiences, and unconventional formats. House of Rest offers a five-day retreat for arts professionals experiencing overload, prioritizing recuperation over production. House of Research supports early-phase exploration, experimentation, and material creation, while House in the Neighbourhood focuses on performative projects developed with local communities and adapted for public spaces. Each residency provides time, space, and context for artists to develop their work without the pressure of a final exhibition. Studio Alta does not charge a fee to apply, and the residencies are offered free of charge. Artists are responsible for their own travel and living expenses unless otherwise specified in individual calls. The residencies are intended for practitioners who value site-specificity, process, and dialogue with local contexts. Detailed guidelines and application requirements are available on Studio Alta's website for each open call.
