´ace — Palimpsest Project 2026 — Mural Painting Open Call
Overview
´ace (Arte Contemporáneo Español) is a non-profit contemporary art center based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, dedicated to fostering experimentation and dialogue across visual arts, music, dance, and literature. The Palimpsest Project 2026 continues the institution's commitment to site-specific and process-oriented work, inviting artists to respond to the palimpsestic nature of the urban and institutional environment. This open call seeks proposals for a mural painting project that engages with the concept of palimpsest—the visible or concealed traces of previous inscriptions—whether material, historical, or cultural. The selected artist will receive support for the production and installation of a mural at ´ace's facilities, along with documentation of the process and public presentation. While the call is rooted in painting, ´ace encourages applications from artists working across disciplines, including photography, music, dance, and visual art, whose practices intersect with muralism, spatial intervention, or archival research. The project aims to activate the walls of ´ace as a living archive, where new layers of meaning are added without erasing what came before. ´ace's curatorial vision emphasizes critical inquiry, contextual awareness, and community engagement. The Palimpsest Project is not merely a commission for decoration but an opportunity to create a work that resonates with the site's history and its diverse publics. Artists are expected to propose a project that is conceptually rigorous, technically feasible, and responsive to the unique conditions of the space. The residency format allows for research, experimentation, and dialogue with local and international peers, culminating in a public artwork that remains as a testament to the project's themes.
