Sinister Wisdom — Submissions

Overview
Since its founding in 1976, Sinister Wisdom has served as a vital archive of lesbian thought, creativity, and political imagination. The journal operates as a collective, reader-supported project with a commitment to publishing work that might otherwise remain outside mainstream literary circuits. Its pages have historically hosted emerging and established voices alike, from Adrienne Rich to anonymous contributors, and its editorial vision remains rooted in intersectional feminism, anti-racism, and queer liberation. Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis, without a fixed deadline, which allows the editorial collective to respond to the ongoing cultural and political moment. There is no submission fee, and the journal does not charge for consideration. Contributors selected for publication receive a modest honorarium and copies of the issue in which their work appears, though the primary reward is participation in a lineage of radical publishing that spans nearly five decades. The curatorial approach favors writing that is formally adventurous, politically engaged, and unafraid of complexity. The editors are attentive to voices that have been marginalized within both mainstream and queer literary spaces, including but not limited to trans, nonbinary, BIPOC, disabled, and working-class writers. The journal does not prescribe a single aesthetic; instead, it seeks work that advances the conversation around lesbian and queer experience in its many forms.
