2027 Perugia Press Prize
Overview
The Perugia Press Prize is an annual award dedicated to supporting a first or second book by a woman. As a nonprofit literary press, Perugia Press has a longstanding commitment to amplifying voices that have historically been underrepresented in publishing. The prize is open to poets who identify as women, including non-binary, LGBTQ+, and queer poets, and seeks manuscripts that demonstrate artistic excellence and a distinctive vision. The press operates with a mission-driven approach, and submission fees are integral to its operations, directly supporting the work of the independent press. In an effort to remove barriers and make submissions more accessible, Perugia Press invites poets to choose a submission rate that works for them and contributes to the organization as they are able. This sliding-scale model reflects a commitment to equity and inclusivity in the submission process. Manuscripts are evaluated through a multi-stage reading process, with each submission viewed by at least two different readers initially. Submissions that advance are given to additional readers, ensuring a thorough and fair consideration. The press seeks manuscripts that exhibit a strong command of craft, a compelling voice, and a cohesive thematic or narrative arc. The winning poet receives publication by Perugia Press, a respected independent press known for its beautifully designed books and dedication to women's voices.
