Nat 1 Publishing — Books 20,000+ words

Overview
Nat 1 Publishing is a speculative fiction imprint soliciting full-length works of science fiction and fantasy at 20,000 words and above. The call is unthemed beyond genre: what is sought is sustained narrative invention in the speculative mode, at novella or novel length, from writers working without the scaffolding of an agent or prior imprint. There is no reading fee, and simultaneous submissions are permitted, provided the press is notified promptly should the work be placed elsewhere. The house's editorial parameters are explicit and worth reading as a statement of values rather than a list of restrictions. Work must be original, previously unpublished in book form (appearance on a personal blog, website, or Reddit does not disqualify it), and free of fan fiction or other infringing material. AI-generated content is not considered. The press declines work that glorifies sexism, racism, ageism, ableism, or other forms of structural prejudice. Manuscripts are read blind: no identifying information should appear anywhere in the submission, including the file name. Decisions on non-expedited submissions generally take between five and ten months. That interval is not incidental; it reflects a reading process conducted by editors rather than a screening algorithm, and it should inform how candidates plan simultaneous submissions. Writers who have previously received a rejection from Nat 1 for a given manuscript should not resubmit that manuscript.
