Unleash Press — Dear Body, an anthology — submissions & contest

Overview
Unleash Press is assembling 'Dear Body,' a cross-border literary anthology that positions the epistolary form as a vehicle for candid, necessary dialogue around the body's most stigmatized experiences. Edited by Ashley Holloway and Jen Knox, the collection seeks letters—in poetry or prose—that address aging, identity, hormonal changes, illness, and pleasure, among other themes. The anthology's stated aim is to normalize conversations too often silenced, and its cross-border framing suggests an editorial interest in voices that traverse geographic and cultural boundaries. The epistolary mode is the anthology's governing constraint and its central curatorial gesture. By requiring letters, the editors foreground direct address, intimacy, and vulnerability—qualities that can cut through the abstraction of more conventional lyric or narrative approaches. Contributors are asked to speak to the body rather than merely about it, a distinction that places the work in a tradition of confessional and documentary writing while opening space for humor, rawness, celebration, and reflection. The anthology explicitly welcomes nuanced experiences of womanhood and personhood across identities, indicating an inclusive editorial scope without prescribing a single aesthetic. All accepted contributors will receive a paperback copy of the anthology. The submission window closes on January 12, 2027, and there is a $15 submission fee, which is non-refundable. Simultaneous submissions are permitted, provided the press is notified immediately if the work is accepted elsewhere and the author wishes to withdraw it. Submissions must be in English. The anthology does not announce a prize or monetary award; its value lies in publication and the circulation of the collected letters.
