Fall 2026 Lemonwood Quarterly Playscript Contest $500

Overview
The Lemonwood Quarterly is a literary journal committed to publishing exceptional English-language short stories and plays. Its quarterly contest serves as a recurring platform for dramatic writing, selecting ten plays per issue for publication. This structure provides playwrights with a reliable venue for their shorter works, ensuring that each selected piece reaches a readership attuned to literary craft. Playwrights whose work is chosen for the Fall 2026 issue will receive a $200 payment and see their play published in that season's edition. Additionally, each selected play advances to the final round of consideration for the $500 Hononegah Mack Prize for the Best Play, awarded in December. This two-tiered recognition offers both immediate publication and the potential for further accolade, underscoring the journal's investment in dramatic voices. The contest is open to all playwrights, with a particular invitation to those from historically underrepresented groups, including women, non-binary, LGBTQ+, queer, BIPOC, and writers of color. The Lemonwood Quarterly seeks plays that demonstrate superb writing and a command of the dramatic form, with lengths between 2,000 and 10,000 words. Submissions are read anonymously, ensuring that each script is evaluated solely on its merits.
