Phoebe Journal — Nonfiction-- Submissions for Print Issue 56.1

Overview
Phoebe Journal, a literary magazine with a long-standing commitment to emerging and established voices, invites nonfiction submissions for its Winter 2027 print issue, 56.1. The journal seeks essays that embrace complexity and explore unique topics, ideas, and connections. The editors express a particular interest in work that reveals larger truths about the self and the world through distinctive lenses, representing diverse identities and voices with intellectual and emotional honesty. Essays engaging with research and history are also welcomed, with the aim of teaching readers something new. The reading period is open until October 9, 2026. A submission fee of $3.00 (USD) applies. The journal aims for a mixture of brevity and breadth, and all submitted work should be stand-alone. The editors approach all essays with care and respect, and they especially welcome essays with BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and/or trans perspectives. This call is for nonfiction only, though the journal publishes fiction and other genres in separate submission periods. While no monetary prize is offered, publication in Phoebe’s print issue provides a significant platform for writers. The journal’s curatorial vision emphasizes intellectual and emotional honesty, and a willingness to engage with complex subject matter. Writers are encouraged to submit work that reflects a unique perspective and a commitment to thoughtful exploration.
