Neon Hemlock — Speculative Chapbook/Novelette
Overview
Neon Hemlock Press has issued an open call for speculative chapbook manuscripts, accepting complete works of 7,500 to 12,000 words between August 20 and October 15, 2026. The press expects to publish at least one chapbook in the following year; should a current crowdfunding stretch goal be met, an additional chapbook will be published in 2026 with a notably accelerated production schedule. There is no submission fee. The press seeks a single novelette within the stated length or a collection of shorter stories, including flash fiction. The curatorial emphasis falls on work that engages some element of queer experience, interpreted broadly. This is not a themed anthology call but a standing invitation to writers whose speculative practice intersects with queer lives, histories, and imaginaries. Manuscripts must be submitted in full, in .doc or .docx format, and formatted in something approaching Standard Manuscript Format. Italics and bold should be used as the work requires. The managing editor has expressed a slight aversion to Courier and a fondness for Georgia. A cover letter including the chapbook title and a brief bio is required; links to a website, social media, and prior publications may be included. The guidelines excerpt provided does not extend beyond this point, and no further submission requirements should be assumed.
