About the organization
Art Center Sarasota, founded in 1926, is one of Florida's oldest continuously operating visual arts organizations. Established as a community art center, it has evolved into a regional hub for contemporary art, offering exhibitions, classes, and outreach programs. Its mission is to inspire and engage the community through diverse artistic experiences, with a focus on supporting local and regional artists. The center maintains a non-collecting, membership-based model that emphasizes participation and education over exclusive curation.

Artists should first review the center's exhibition calendar and membership requirements. Most opportunities are open to members, so joining may be a prerequisite. For juried shows, follow the prospectus carefully, noting deadlines, themes, and media restrictions. The center favors work that engages with contemporary themes and demonstrates technical skill, but is open to a range of styles. Given its community focus, artists based in Florida or with ties to the region may find a receptive audience. Submit high-quality digital images and a concise artist statement. It is advisable to visit exhibitions in person to understand the space and curatorial direction before applying.
