About the organization

The David Geffen School of Drama at Yale, formerly the Yale School of Drama, is a graduate professional conservatory within Yale University. Founded in 1924, it was the first university-based drama school in the United States and has long been associated with rigorous, practice-based training in acting, design, directing, dramaturgy, playwriting, stage management, technical design and production, theater management, and theater and performance studies. The school's ethos is rooted in the belief that theater is a collaborative art form requiring both individual mastery and collective discipline. Its mission is to educate and train artists and practitioners who will shape the future of the field, with an emphasis on process, critical inquiry, and the development of new work. The school operates in close partnership with Yale Repertory Theatre, a professional LORT theater that serves as a laboratory for students and a bridge to the profession.
