About the organization
Dogwood Literary is a small, independent literary organization that operates primarily through its online presence. Founded with the aim of supporting emerging writers, it has maintained a modest but consistent presence in the literary community. Its core mission centers on recognizing and promoting new voices in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction through its annual Literary Awards. While not affiliated with a larger institution, Dogwood Literary has cultivated a reputation for accessible and encouraging contests that prioritize artistic merit over commercial appeal.

Writers interested in Dogwood Literary's awards should carefully review the submission guidelines on their website, which typically include word limits and genre specifications. The organization values clarity and originality, so avoid overly experimental or genre-blurring work unless explicitly welcomed. Since the contests are often fee-based, consider the cost relative to your goals. Response times can vary, so patience is advised. It is recommended to follow their blog or social media for updates on deadlines and thematic prompts.
