About the organization
Fogo Island Arts is a residency-based contemporary art initiative founded in 2008 by Zita Cobb, a native of Fogo Island, Newfoundland. Emerging from the social and economic revitalization efforts of the Shorefast Foundation, it invites artists, filmmakers, writers, and designers to live and work on the island, engaging with its communities and landscape. The program is grounded in a belief that art and culture can be catalysts for resilient, place-based economies. Residencies are hosted in four contemporary studios designed by architect Todd Saunders, situated in the outports of Fogo Island. The initiative fosters dialogue across disciplines and supports the production of new work, often culminating in exhibitions, publications, and public programs.
