About the organization

The International Center for Contemporary Italian Culture (ICCI) is a global institution dedicated to advancing the study and appreciation of Italian cultural production from the modern era to the present. Founded on the principle that Italian creativity is a vital, evolving force rather than a fixed historical artifact, the ICCI supports scholarly research, translation, and interdisciplinary dialogue across literature, visual arts, cinema, and design. Its flagship Ricciardi Prize, awarded annually, recognizes outstanding emerging voices in contemporary Italian cultural criticism and translation, reflecting the Center's commitment to nurturing the next generation of interpreters and scholars.

ICCI — Ricciardi Prize

Taking part

Applicants to the Ricciardi Prize should demonstrate original, well-researched engagement with contemporary Italian cultural texts or practices. The selection committee favors clarity of argument, critical depth, and awareness of current debates over mere celebration. Submissions are typically accepted in English or Italian; translations must be accompanied by source texts. Deadlines are strict, and late or incomplete entries are not reviewed. Prospective applicants are advised to consult past winning essays (available on the ICCI website) to gauge the expected tone and scope. There is no application fee, but only one submission per cycle is permitted.
