About the organization
The International Awards for Art Criticism (ICI) was established to foster rigorous, independent writing on contemporary art. Unlike awards that celebrate artists, ICI recognizes the critics themselves, positioning criticism as a vital and creative practice. The organization operates globally, with a mission to support emerging voices and stimulate dialogue across cultural contexts. Through its annual competition, ICI invites submissions from writers at all stages of their careers, emphasizing clarity, originality, and critical depth over promotional rhetoric.

ICI seeks well-argued, original essays that demonstrate critical insight and a strong command of language. Avoid overly academic jargon or promotional language; instead, aim for accessible yet sophisticated prose that engages with specific artworks, exhibitions, or broader art-world issues. Submissions should be previously unpublished and adhere to the annual theme or open call guidelines. Given the global pool of applicants, ensure your writing stands out through a distinctive perspective and rigorous analysis. Review past winning entries to understand the expected tone and depth.
