About the organization
Künstlerhaus Stuttgart is a non-profit art association founded in 1978, dedicated to the production and presentation of contemporary art. From its base in Stuttgart, it has cultivated a program that prioritizes process, experimentation, and critical discourse, often serving as an early platform for artists who later gain international recognition. The institution operates with a flexible, project-based approach, commissioning new work and hosting residencies that allow for sustained engagement rather than mere exhibition. Its ethos is rooted in supporting artistic research and risk-taking, with a curatorial demeanor that values inquiry over spectacle.

Artists should approach Künstlerhaus Stuttgart with a clear, well-researched proposal that aligns with its experimental and process-driven mission. While the institution does not have a permanent open call, it periodically announces opportunities for exhibitions, residencies, and projects. It is advisable to follow their website and newsletters for updates, and to tailor submissions to specific calls rather than sending unsolicited portfolios. Demonstrating a thoughtful engagement with contemporary discourse and a willingness to develop work over time is key.
