About the organization

Mall Galleries, located on The Mall in London, is the home of the Federation of British Artists (FBA), a charity established in 1963 to support and promote the work of contemporary figurative artists. The FBA comprises nine member societies, including the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, and the Royal Society of Marine Artists, each with its own history and exhibition program. The galleries host a year-round series of open exhibitions, solo shows, and educational events, providing a platform for both emerging and established artists working in traditional and contemporary figurative modes. The founding ethos is to champion excellence in representational art and to foster a vibrant community of artists and audiences.

Mall Galleries — Royal Institute of Oil Painters Open Call

Taking part

Artists should carefully review the specific open call requirements for each member society, as criteria and deadlines vary. Work must be original, and typically created within the last three years. Submission is usually digital via the Mall Galleries website, with a fee. It is advisable to visit exhibitions to understand the standard and style favored by each society. Presentation and framing should be professional, and artists should ensure their work aligns with the society's remit (e.g., oil paintings for the Royal Institute of Oil Painters). Acceptance rates are competitive, so submitting to multiple societies may increase chances.
