About the organization
MONO NO AWARE is a New York-based non-profit cinema arts organization founded in 2007 to celebrate and preserve the art of filmmaking as a tactile, time-based medium. Taking its name from the Japanese concept of 'mono no aware'—a sensitivity to the ephemeral nature of things—the organization champions analog film practices, expanded cinema, and the fleeting beauty of moving image. Through annual exhibitions, screenings, and workshops, MONO NO AWARE fosters a community of artists who engage with film as a material and performative medium, often incorporating sculpture, live performance, and installation.

Artists should submit work that demonstrates a thoughtful engagement with the materiality of film, whether through traditional filmmaking, expanded cinema, or performance. The selection committee values originality, technical skill, and a clear artistic vision. Ensure your submission aligns with the theme of ephemerality and the tactile nature of the medium. Include detailed documentation of any performance or installation components, and be prepared to discuss your process in artist talks if selected.
