About the organization
Founded in 1979 in Telluride, Colorado, Mountainfilm is one of North America's longest-running documentary film festivals. Its core mission is to use the power of film, art, and ideas to inspire audiences to create a better world. The festival's Commitment Grants program extends this ethos by providing financial support to filmmakers and artists whose projects address pressing social, environmental, and cultural issues, often with a focus on adventure, conservation, and human rights.

Applicants should demonstrate a clear alignment with Mountainfilm's mission, emphasizing the social or environmental impact of their project. A strong treatment, compelling visual samples, and a realistic budget are essential. The grants are competitive, so articulate how the funding will advance the project and why Mountainfilm's support is pivotal. Deadlines are typically in the fall; check the website for current cycles.
