About the organization

The Ohio Arts Council (OAC) was established in 1965 as a state agency to foster and encourage the development of the arts throughout Ohio. Its founding ethos is rooted in the belief that public support for the arts is essential to the cultural, educational, and economic vitality of the state. The OAC administers a range of grant programs, including the Individual Excellence Awards, which recognize outstanding artists in various disciplines. The Council's mission is to support artists and arts organizations, promote arts education, and ensure that the arts are accessible to all Ohioans.

Ohio Arts Council — Individual Excellence Awards

Taking part

Applicants should carefully review the guidelines for each grant program, as requirements vary by discipline and career stage. The Individual Excellence Awards are highly competitive and require a strong body of work; artists are advised to submit a cohesive portfolio that demonstrates artistic growth and excellence. Deadlines are firm, and applications must be submitted through the OAC's online system. It is recommended to start early, gather all required materials, and consider seeking feedback from past grantees or local arts organizations.
