About the organization
Passa Porta is an international house of literature based in Brussels, founded in 2004 as a joint initiative of the Flemish and French Communities. It serves as a meeting place for writers, translators, and readers, hosting residencies, festivals, and debates that foster cross-cultural literary exchange. Its core mission is to support the creation and dissemination of literature in a multilingual and international context, with a particular emphasis on authors working in lesser-translated languages.

Passa Porta primarily invites authors through curated calls and partnerships; unsolicited manuscripts are not accepted. Artists should monitor their website and newsletters for open calls, which typically require a project proposal, writing samples, and a clear rationale for why Brussels and Passa Porta are essential to the project. Demonstrating a genuine interest in cross-cultural exchange and a willingness to participate in public events is crucial. Proficiency in French or Dutch is not mandatory but can enhance engagement with local audiences.
