About the organization

The Filmmaker Assistance Program (FAP) is an initiative of the National Film Board of Canada (NFB), a public film producer and distributor founded in 1939. FAP provides technical and post-production support to independent Canadian filmmakers, enabling them to complete films that might otherwise remain unfinished due to financial or logistical constraints. The program reflects the NFB's enduring commitment to fostering diverse voices and innovative storytelling within the Canadian film landscape.

Application guidance

Applicants should carefully review eligibility criteria, which typically require Canadian citizenship or residency and a project in an advanced stage of production. Prepare a detailed proposal including a synopsis, production schedule, budget, and explanation of how NFB assistance would facilitate completion. Emphasize the project's artistic merit and alignment with NFB's mandate to reflect Canadian perspectives. Deadlines and application forms are available on the NFB website; early consultation with program officers is recommended.
