About the organization
The Studios Inc is a nonprofit residency program based in Kansas City, Missouri, founded in 2000 to provide dedicated studio space and professional development for visual artists. Its core mission is to support mid-career artists by offering time, space, and critical feedback, with a focus on fostering sustained creative practice rather than short-term production. The residency emphasizes community engagement and peer dialogue, encouraging artists to experiment and refine their work within a supportive environment.

Applicants should demonstrate a clear, ongoing artistic practice and a genuine interest in engaging with the Kansas City arts community. The selection committee prioritizes work that shows critical rigor and a willingness to experiment. Proposals should articulate how the residency would benefit the artist's practice at this stage, rather than simply listing past achievements. It is advisable to visit the website for specific application requirements and deadlines, and to tailor materials to reflect the program's emphasis on process and dialogue.
