About the organization

U.S. Figure Skating is the national governing body for the sport of figure skating in the United States, recognized by the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee and the International Skating Union. Founded in 1921 as the United States Figure Skating Association, it has since grown to oversee a vast network of member clubs, competitions, and developmental programs. Its core mission is to provide a lifetime of opportunities for athletes at all levels, from learn-to-skate programs to elite international competition, while fostering a culture of excellence, sportsmanship, and inclusivity. The organization also serves as a steward of the sport's artistic and athletic heritage, supporting skaters through scholarships, awards, and grants that enable them to pursue both competitive and educational goals.

Application guidance

Artists and cultural practitioners should note that U.S. Figure Skating's scholarships, awards, and grants are exclusively available to its registered members—figure skaters who compete or participate in sanctioned events. These funds are intended to offset training, travel, and educational expenses, not to support independent artistic projects. If you are a skater, review the eligibility criteria carefully on the organization's website, prepare documentation of your competitive record and financial need, and adhere strictly to application deadlines. Non-skaters seeking arts funding should look to organizations whose missions align with their practice.
